Data Manager Catalog Backup

It is posible to automate the backup of a Datamanager Catalog.

On ittoolbox.com, Michael Sherman replied that his script can be used as an example:

SET DATESTAMP=%DATE%

SET TIMESTAMP=%TIME%

SET YEAR=%DATESTAMP:~10,4%

SET MONTH=%DATESTAMP:~4,2%

SET DAY=%DATESTAMP:~7,2%

SET HOUR=%TIMESTAMP:~0,2%

SET MINUTE=%TIMESTAMP:~3,2%

SET FILEDATE=%YEAR%-%MONTH%-%DAY%_%HOUR\%%MINUTE%

C:\Progra~1\cognos\c8\bin\CATBACKUP.exe ODBC “DSN=[ODBC Connection to Catalog Database];UID=[User ID to log onto Database];PWD=[Password to Log onto Database]” “[Full Path Name for the Catalog Backup]%FILEDATE%.ctg”

You can also take a look in the IBM Datamanager User Guide on page 430.

Change session time

Case:

User has to login again after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Solution:

The global session time had to be extended, e.g. to 1 hour. The following steps show how to do this:

1. Start Cognos configuration for the environment you wish to edit.

2. Go to Local Configuration\Security\Authentication

set_session_time_1

3. Change the value for “Inactivity timeout in seconds”

Old value: 600

New value: 3600 (is one hour)

4. Save de settings (floppy icon)

5. Restart the services.
